Articulation Road Map for TH, SH, CH, and J Sounds

Articulation for SH speech sounds

I love implementing a literacy-based approach in my articulation therapy sessions. However, it is not always easy to identify books with a heavy load of the target sound. I created a “Road Map” that provides a list of books for targeting TH, SH, CH, and J sounds. It also includes tips for sound production, play-based activity ideas, and bookmarks.

I have highlighted a few of my favorite books below (amazon affiliates included), but you can access the full FREE Articulation Road Map for TH, SH, CH, and J sounds directly to your inbox by filling in your information at the end of this post.

If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Joffe Numeroff – A boy gives a moose a muffin and of course a  comical sequence of events follows.

How to use it in speech:

  • TH in the initial and middle word position
  • reactive sequence narrative, vocabulary

The Pout-Pout Fish and the Bully-Bully Shark by Deborah Diesen – Fish teaches a bully shark about kindness and being a friend.

How to use it in speech:

  • SH sound in all word positions
  • social/emotional connection, plot, vocabulary

Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond – Charlie loves living in the country, but you'll learn that he isn't your typical ranch dog.

How to use it in speech:

  • CH in all word positions
  • compare and contrast, simple plot, vocabulary

Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall – Jabari is determined to jump off the diving board. With the support of his patient father, Jabari finally works up the courage to jump.

  • frequent use of “Jabari” and forms of the word “jump”
  • social/emotional connection, complete episode plot, vocabulary
