/J/ Book List for Articulation Therapy

I created a picture book list inventory of my favorite /J/ sound books for articulation therapy. Books for articulation are a fantastic resource for speech therapists because they provide engaging, context-rich opportunities for children to practice speech sounds naturally. By incorporating target sounds into stories, therapists can help children improve their articulation while also enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Books offer a fun and motivating way to work on speech goals, keeping sessions interactive and meaningful, which helps maintain the child’s interest and focus during therapy.

The Best /J/ Books for Articulation

The books I selected either have a high frequency of the /J/ sound or a word containing the sound is repeated throughout. I organized my list of /J/ books by initial, medial, and final. A column on the right of the inventory list allows you to add your notes if needed. I like to note where to locate the book to save my productivity. For instance, I will label them as “mine” or “library” if it’s a book I borrowed, etc.

Initial /J/ Sound Books for Articulation

These books are fantastic because they have plenty of repetitions of the /j/ sound at the start of words. It’s a great place to start with the book list for articulation with the letter j!

• Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae​: This fun, rhythmic story provides plenty of opportunities to practice the /j/ sound with words like “giraffe” and “jungle” while engaging children with its positive message about finding your rhythm.
