August Speech Therapy Lesson Plans

Sharing plans for August can get tricky since everyone starts school at different times. Luckily, these lessons are flexible enough to work for various back-to-school dates since they include both summer and back-to-school activities. Whether you’re a school-based SLP or working with a private caseload, I hope that these lesson plans help keep you organized and start a new school year with confidence. If you’d like your own FREE editable copy of these August speech therapy lesson plans, all you need to do is enter your name and email at the bottom of this post. You can also check out my other monthly lesson plans. Happy planning!

This post contains Amazon affiliate links if you wish to add these book recommendations to your personal library. This is at no cost to you and helps support this blog!

Week 1: Farm

BOOKS: Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type

ARTICULATION: Popper Companion- Cow, Match and Say- Farm The Match and Say activity is NO PREP and can be used for mixed groups. You can even see a walkthrough video on my Instagram Match and Say highlights HERE!

LANGUAGE: Popper Companion- Cow, Match and Say- Farm

Week 2: Space

BOOKS: Astro Girl, National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Space, Counting On Katherine

ARTICULATION: 50 Articulation Trials (stars and sun pages)

LANGUAGE: Battle Dice and Dot with Star Craft This craft activity is FUNctional (my favorite kind) and can double as cute room decor.

Week 3: Friendship and Kindness

BOOKS: Strictly No Elephants, Little Elliot, Big City, Melia and Jo, I Walk With Vanessa If you want to focus on inclusion, I highly recommend reading Strictly No Elephants. It’s a powerful book with a heartwarming message on how important it is to stick up for others.

ARTICULATION: Battle Dice and Dot with Kindness Cactus Craft

LANGUAGE: BTS Book Companions, Battle Dice and Dot with Kindness Craft This is another FUNctional craft activity that you can use to create a kindness bulletin board that can be left up year-round.

Week 4: Back to School

BOOKS: School’s First Day of School, The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes, Chrysanthemum  I use the book The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes to open a discussion about problem-solving when things don’t go as planned. It can even be used with middle schoolers! Another fantastic option is Chrysanthemum, which talks about struggles with acceptance and gaining confidence in your self-worth.

ARTICULATION: 100 Articulation Trials (Back to School page), BTS Book Companions

LANGUAGE: BTS Book Companions
