With back-to-school season upon us, we love incorporating books with that theme into our speech therapy sessions. There are so many wonderful books out there, but we always go back to a classic favorite, Pete the Cat. This fun, loveable, and fan-favorite is a classic read for a reason, but it also has great key concepts to work on with your students. In today’s episode, we’re doing a deep dive using Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes by James Dean and sharing how to effectively use this book in your speech therapy sessions.

In each of our deep-dive episodes, we discuss how we go through a book and pick out all the relevant speech and language goals and concepts to review with your students. Knowing the important concepts of books you’re reading with your students helps you go deeper into a student’s understanding of how certain concepts are used and their meaning to the overall story.

As we deep-dive using Pete the Cat, we share why we’re pulling this book off our shelf, all the key concepts, and examples to point out and use with your students. This book also does a great job of exploring character emotions, which you can relate to your students’ feelings towards a new school year and the emotions they’re feeling. So, if you’re looking for a fun back-to-school book, consider using Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes with your students!
