With summer just around the corner, many of you might be thinking about or already planning on hosting a literacy-based summer camp. These are wonderful opportunities to do something new and fun while still helping kids work on their literacy, language, and phonics concepts. After hosting a few ourselves, we know the most effective routine, how to handle the logistics, and ways to add in some fun and engaging crafts for the kids. So, in today’s episode, we’re sharing how to structure a literacy-based summer camp, along with a few theme ideas.

When you choose to host a literacy-based summer camp, the structure might look a little different than your regular speech therapy sessions with students during the school year. While still focused on academics and learning, this can be a time for you to be a little more carefree and relaxed. One way to make it fun is by incorporating a theme. We found that once a theme is chosen, you can choose books, crafts, activities, and snacks that all revolve around it in order to tie everything together. We provide you with examples of each to help get you started on your own.
