Deep Dive into Using The Gruffalo in Speech Therapy – Episode 48

deep-dive-using-the-gruffalo

When we discuss a variety of topics and key concepts during each episode, we like to reference some of our favorite books that are great examples of the concepts we’re discussing. Although we have a long list of favorite picture books, this book might be our all-time favorite, which is The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. After listening to our podcast for so long, you know we mention this book frequently because it targets so many key concepts we look for when working with students. Because of this, in today’s episode, we’re doing a deep dive using The Gruffalo and sharing how to best use this book during your speech therapy sessions.

Each time we do a deep dive episode, we want to provide you with all the relevant speech and language goals you can pull out from the book. One of the main reasons why we love using The Gruffalo is because it can be used with a variety of age groups and touches on multiple key concepts. We share examples of each key concept that can be discussed from the book while also sharing the different concepts students need to know in order to fully understand the book. After listening to our deep dive using The Gruffalo, you will see why this is one of our all-time favorite books, and it will soon be one of yours, too!

Topics Discussed:

  • Our deep dive into The Gruffalo and sharing all the relevant speech and language goals from it
  • Why this is a great non-seasonal picture book and an all-time favorite of ours
  • The key concepts you can discuss and examples directly from the text
  • What concepts and ideas students need to know first in order to fully understand the book
  • A list of predicting and inference questions to ask your students that go along with The Gruffalo
