Deep Dive: Using Fletcher and The Springtime Blossoms in Speech Therapy – Episode 44
With spring just on the horizon, we’re getting you prepared to incorporate spring picture books in your speech therapy sessions. In last week’s episode, we shared our favorite spring books list with you, but we wanted to focus on one book in particular with another deep dive episode. Our deep dive episodes show you how we go through books and pull out all of the relevant speech and language goals. From one of our favorite authors, we’re doing a deep dive using Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms in speech therapy.
One of the reasons this book is so useful in speech therapy sessions is the number of key concepts you can cover while also serving a variety of age groups. As we go through each of the key concepts, we also share specific examples from the book that show how it can be used with your students effectively. Another reason we love this book so much is because of the main character, Fletcher. His and his friends’ actions and concern for others provide you with an opportunity to do a character analysis and have meaningful conversations around SEL and the book’s theme and message. We encourage you to use this book in your speech therapy sessions after our deep dive using Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms.
Topics Discussed:
- A brief summary of Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms
- Specific examples of the key concepts to use during your speech therapy sessions
- A list of inference questions you can use with your students based on information from the text
- Reason for the deep dive and how it benefits your students
