deep-dive-using-neck-&-neck

Do you know that amazing feeling of discovering a cute, engaging book that meets all your literacy concepts? That was us when we discovered Neck & Neck by Elise Paisley! Once we read this fun, zoo-themed book, we instantly loved it and wanted to use it during our speech therapy sessions. Since we love this book so much, we’re doing a deep dive using Neck & Neck to highlight the key concepts you can use and show you why we’re pulling this book off our shelves.

When doing a deep dive episode, our intention is to show you why a book is being used in our speech therapy sessions, along with the relevant speech and language goals from the book. To us, Neck & Neck checks off lots of boxes and is a book your students will enjoy reading and discussing. Throughout our conversation, we share a quick summary, who the intended audience is, and key literacy concepts such as vocabulary, character analysis, predicting, illustration study, and more. We also provide examples for each key concept and disclose the main reason why we’d use this book. After hearing our deep dive using Neck & Neck, we know it will quickly become a favorite for you and your students during speech therapy!

Topics Discussed:

  • What a deep dive episode’s purpose is and sharing the relevant speech and language goals
  • Why Neck & Neck is an amazing and fun book that incorporates a variety of key language concepts
  • The main reason why we’re pulling this book off the shelf and why that’s an important key concept for students to learn and understand
  • How you can do a parallel story with Neck & Neck based off the plot and illustration at the end of the book
